N600 Hondamatic

Post by mielkeb »

Hey
I saw in Europe once a N600 with a column change Hondamatic, with a quadrant that read, I
believe P R N * 2 1. Was this a semi-automatic? How did it work? 3 speed? Ever sold in the
U.S.? I wondered why the N600 got more gears then the 1200-1500 Civics that had the 2-
speed Hondamatic.
Thanks

Hi Peter;
The Hondamatic 600 had two automatic transmissions, the first only on the
first 700 built and the other on the remaining 2 thousand or so. The major
difference between the two is the early model has a tow wire or cable
shifting system while the later has only one cable. To date I have only
found two Hondamatics in the USA. And, although there is a brochure
(without a date) offering it as an option, there is no indication they were
sold in the USA. I say this because initial outfitting for new Honda car
dealers does not list parts or repair tools specific to the Hondamatic.
They are three speed fully automatic transmissions with toque converters.
The shift quadrant has one major flaw in that it will brake in two parts if
the gear shift is pushed on.

Hey,
a frind of mine has a N600 with automatic gear. You can see it on:
http://www.hondarevival.com/en/a600.php
It has three speed and you can use it as fully automatic (D) or semi-automatic (1, 2, 3)
The transmission is a constant mesh , 3 forward and 1 reverse speed.
The quadrant has the following positions: 1,2,3,D,N,P,R
hger's a torque converter. All the mechanism is contained in the engine compartement.
There is a different engine oil pump.
The same transmission was mounted on the Japanese N360 and Z360.

Hi Luca;
I tried to go onto your site and it will not come up. What is the engine
and chassis numbers to your Hondamatic?

Hi, and thanks for the replies.
I've tried to get on to the Hondarevival site, and it won't load for me, either.
Thanks

Hi! The Hondarevival site needs Macromedia Flash to run, it's a free download. I can't get it to open at work, but it works great at home, and it's an extremely well done site.

Hey
I tried it... I get a black screen with instructions
in Italian. I'm wondering if I'm not getting the
flash introduction because I'm on a Mac? I haven't had
a problem like this for years... I'm on the newest G5
Mac, with cable internet hook up.
I'll keep trying! Thanks
