can't find seal

I cannot find the seal that goes behind the clutch drum (the larger
seal that is 67x82x8) Does anybody have one, or know where I can get
one? I can have a custom one made here locally for $67, but I am not
ready to spend that much for a seal if possible.

yes, how much? I found out the setting plate behind the clutch drum
is chewed up and is what ate my original seal up, do you have a
setting plate that goes on the driven sprocket?

Keep looking you will probably find that the bearing on the mainshaft
of transmission has failed. When this bearing fails the clutch drum
will jump around and wear the seal out. If it is bad enough you will
see where the clutch drum has worn on the clutch cover. Grab the
shaft and shake it and see what happens.

the shaft is tight and spins freely, but I will take the side cover
off and the sprockets and inspect everything, I have to remove the
cover and remove the debris anyways.

Sounds like you are working on the primary drive area.  When you take the cover off the sprocket, check the cushions. They are a rubber-type material.  The early style were round and the later style were rectangular.  If you have the round style,  you do not want to re-use them.  You want the drive with the rectangular cushions.

I took it apart last night and I have the larger rectangular rubbers,
but only 4 out of 8 were there- the setting plate came apart and let
4 of them fall out and get ground up!!! I have all the debris
cleaned out and bought another primary drive setup with rectangular
rubbers. I did find a seal that will work, we crossed the metric
seal over to US size and found one that will work.
My '71 N600 has about 70,000 miles on it.

Can you tell us the seal dimensions? so the next person can benefit
or the part number from the box and manufacturer?

I actually havn't put it in yet, and I think I will have to trim it
down a bit because it is wider than the original seal. But it is
metal on the outside, so it will be easy to trim, but need to have
sealant put on before install. When I am for sure it will work I
will post it here.
