idle any ideas???

Post by deantds »

hi this is dean again with my idle problems. well... sence we last read in this longggg story my car would not idle nor run smooth and had a rpm of 2500. some wonder ful thing happened i found that my timming was what was causing my rough idle...though i hadnt changed it form when i got it. that made the car run quite smooth...yea!!! now for the fun. i gave up on the carb...it had other problems but prob. could have been fixed... and got me another one that "came from a running engine" i put it on and the car started up and ran smoothly but a little fast. i backed off the choke and it ran smooth but varied in rpm some 800rpm. i backed off the acc idle screw and it slowed down and died...put idle screw back. then i turned the mixture screw in and out with out any differance...put at 2 1/2 turns from closing. then i removed my tested solnoide wire and no differance. i removed the solnoide and installed a "cut" one... no shaft... no differance................ any ideas???? i runs smooth now but too fast and varies 400rpm over ten seconds. thanks for the ideas.

Dean, since this is a long running problem.......have you checked for a vacuum leak where your upper and lower head meet? That's your intake runner. If its not sealed against the lower head (my term), or is porous, you'll have the problems you describe. Spray carb cleaner around the area where the intake bolts to the upper head. The other possibility is jumped timing chain. Let us know !!
