New member, Hello, and a question re; year ID

Hi there.  I just join your Honda 600 group and I'm  glad to be a member of your group.
I recently purchased an orange, Honda 600  Coupe.  I owned a very similar one for several years in the 70's. Took it on trips from Los Angeles to Phoenix and to Washington State.  Can't quite imagine doing that now. I reluctanly sold it as my family was growing.
I attended a small car show here in LA in April.  There were several Honda 600s there and realized it was time to try and buy one.
I have a question regarding the year identification.  I purchased the car as a 1971, according to the owner, and have filled out a few documents (nothing that can't be changed) such as a  "Bill of Sale" and other documents stating it's a 1971.
 I haven't been able to register it yet here as the owner sent me a copy of his registration/title.  The DMV is requiring the original document which is on it's way to me from the previous owner    The car is officially registered as a 72 to the previous owner in his state.  The only year ID I can find is on the door panel with the VIN number and it says 10/71, so I'm assuming it's a 1971.  Is there any way to identify the year by means of the VIN#?  I just want to get the paper work right so there aren't any hasseles down the road.

most likely its a 72 , the dealer builds a car till mid/late year then the new modle comes out, so in october of 71 the dealership considers this a 72 ........ hope this helps

Thank you fro the reply. Are there any differences in the 71 vs the 72
Coupes, such as , a different chrome piece or other trim piece that
would distinguish the two, etc?

Steve, thank you for the reply.  That helps....a little bit.  My car has the flat bumpers like your's, however, I remember the car I owned in the 70's was titled as a '72 but also had the flat bumpers. My current Coupe has hazard lights--is the article saying this was one of the 72 upgrades and is there anything else that obvious.  My VIN # fits into the category of the '71, but since it's stamped 10/71  I would think it would have been sold in 72, by the time it got to the US, etc, and kind of what Dean was implying.

All you have to do is take the car to the DMV and show them the small black plate on the drivers door post just below the latch.  It should say 6/71 or the like and then print out the front section of the Parts manual and it will say that this is truly a 1971 Honda 600.

my 70 is registered as a 71 here in california, the previous owner didnt know what year it was when he went to register it and said 71. I wanted to change it when i registered it under my name but DMV said it was not possible since the record says 71 now. Really doesnt make any difference to me, its just DMV.
