Honda n600 strarter

---The drive on the starters are not the same, been there done that with this type of starter, any local starter repair shop should be able to rebuild your starter without a problem.

I have a broken clutch cable on a 72 Honda coupe that I have to replace.   Do I have to drop the housing for the pedals to remove the upper pin and what do I have to take apart at the motor to remove that end.    Any help would be appreciated.   Joe C.

Hi Joe,
    The clutch cable is attached to pedal with a pin held in place by a cotter pin.  Unclip the cotter pin and this end is free.
Then you will need to loosen the bolt on the clutch cover lever arm until you can remove the other end of the clutch.  Then you need to slide this end of the cable from its keeper which is cast into the top of the clutch cover.
Then the cable snakes around toward the passenger side of the car by going underneath the fan housing.  Use patience because the cable may get snagged on air cleaner channel....don't tug real hard thinking force will be your ally.  You can look through the sheet metal slot in the wheel well on the driver side and see what the cable must travel through... you will need a bright light to see well in this area.
    You do not need to drop the pedal to replace the clutch cable.  Your biggest challenge may be trying to squeeze under the dash to see what you have.  Using a mirror may help.  Removing he driver seat will also give you more room (4 bolts will free the seat and rail system).

The bendix gear is off about an 1/16 of an inch, just enough to keep it from catching.

Thanks;    I am looking for a little person who can get their hands up above the clutch pedal and remove the cotter key, and then replace the pin with the new cable.     My next thought is to cut a hole in the coul above the cable.    Back to looking for a little person!!!    Joe C.

Hi Joe,
   When you remove the cable from the clutch and extract it from under the fan,  you can unplug the fitting which goes into the firewall.  Then you will see where the cable is connected to the pedal.  It is still going to be difficult because it is a small hole and the brake master cylinder will be in the way.
   Finding someone who can crawl under the dash may be the best choice.  If you take out the driver seat system,  it does afford a whole bunch of room to lay down and look up.
