Outer CV Joint Disassembly

Hi, I'm trying to replace the outer CV Boots and don't see how the outer joint comes off. Any tips or how-to's? Thanks!

What car do you have?
I have the complete workshop manual for the Honda N600/N360
The information that you need is there,on chapter 9 (if this is the correct car)
The manual is very complete and has everything you need to know on the N600/N360.
Tried to send an email to you, here on 2cylinder Hondas but was not able to attach the file with the manual chapter you need,
If you give me your email address I can send the manual to you.
I also have a very good contact for parts for these cars ,here in Portugal.

Hi Bobby;
There are a couple of ways and one is what the Honda 600 book says from the out side removing the caliper, rotor and pulling the shaft and bearings (a real pain). Another is to remove the knuckle and shaft together and remove the flange from the engine side, (leave the clip on the shaft). Then work the out side boot off the bearing flange (I use a flat blade screw driver) to lift the small end of the boot over the clips. Clean the CV joint grease off and then pull the new boot on using a flat blade screw driver to lift the small end over the clips and fill with CV Joint grease and clamp in place. Then go to the inner boot and do the same. Remember that the longer boot goes on the outside or wheel end of the shaft.
Note; some CV boot sets come with a special clamp, which will take a special tool to get it tight. Wire ties and hose clamps will not do the trick. Even the stainless steel banding kits have special tools. NAPA normally has the correct tools and CV boot clamps. If your boots do not come with clamps take them to NAPA or another auto parts store and get the right ones before you start the job. If the clamps are not tight then grease will come out and foul the disc brake rubber dust covers.
The second way is easier as it does not involve removing the bearings.

Thanks guys. I removed the inner joint and got the outer boots changed, but now I have to find some clamps to reinstall the inner boots. Looks like I need two 30mm and two 80mm. Got any links for some clamps? The local parts stores have been useless.

Don't know a source, but hose clamps will work.

Amazon.com sells them. Also the special Lisle tool to tighten them up.

NAPA stores should have the clamps and tool to do the job. Bill has been doing these for a long time so I went with what he says. Others may work too but.

Thanks for all the replies. I contacted "thecvman" on ebay and he is sending me 4 of the correct size clamps for $5. Most of the parts stores around here didn't carry just the clamps and the few that did had universal ones that didn't look like they would adjust down small enough for these little CV's.
