cam chain replacement

Hi guys .. this is the first time I post and hopefully I'm able to contribute.. I have 3 sedans and the last one I bought I found out the engine was stuck .. so I went ahead and opened it and well you know, cylinders were rusted .. so I'm going to try and change anything that can and needs to be changed like the can chain... so after 2 days of researching and finding out that the chain is classified as 219 .. with 108 links .. it is possible to get a 219 chain with more links than you need and just use a masterlink.. but personally I don't like that idea. I guess it might be possible to use one of these as to avoid dissasembling the engine.. well to the point... the motorcycles that use a 219chain with 108 links are all Yamaha. They are ; the FZR1000 89-96, GTS1000 93-96, YZF1000 96-99. I could be wrong but you can email me so I can show you where I came up with the info .. on eBay the chains are running around $53 +shipping .. now the only thing I can't seem to find a replacement for is the drive chains ... my measurements are crude. But I think they classify as 06b its a British standard .. if anybody can help my find those chains , it would be much appreciated .. somebody correct me if any of the above is incorrect .. I don't want to point people in the wrong direction

It's a commonly used drive chain on karts.

Yes .. that is true but I would assume the ones that are used on karts might be a bit frail... as opposed to ones specifically designated for the cam on a engine

I would disagree. I suspect thatthe chain construction is nearly identical, and frankly, the kart chain has to pull all of the weight of the kart and rider, while the cam chain only has to turn the weight of a tiny camshaft, although it does spin a lot faster!

I would take the Honda chain to any local machine shop with quality control and have them measure the Hardness of the chain steel - then compare that with other chains - the harder, the stronger, but more brittle.. the type of steel material used for the chain is also important but the problem is - that is hard to find out (Material Cert Needed) especially if it comes from Asia
