This sounds pretty fishy to me...
I would not even do anything without further investigating if i were anyone in the 2 cylinder group as this sounds like a possible scam?

We got emails like this regularly at the newspaper, and from reputable local people, all of who had never left town. A scam attempt is all this is.
Anybody know Gary? Bet he's not been anywhere near the Philippines.

This is an old con that originated in the 17th century that is designed to play on the sympathy of others, as many cons do. The story has many variations but is similar in nature and can also involve giving a bit of money and receiving a big return.
