Gear shift rod assembly

I'm a new member with a '72 600 sedan.  The shifter is very sloppy. All components are good down to the lower 'universal joint' which is definitely the issue. It appears to have been opened--the upper pin is not original. This pin passes through a rectangular rubber sleeve (badly worn), around which is a U shaped shackle linked to the yoke that connects to the transmission shift  rod --It's easier looking at it than describing it !  I think Honda intended some looseness and softness' in view of the rubber components and the allowance for some up and down sliding,--but not this much. Anyone devised a clever fix?         Anyone know if these cars were ever sold in Canada ? and last, is there a means of topic search in the group?
