Auxillary heaters.

Does any body know about the old Gasoline heaters that were
available thru Volkswagon for their Air-cooled cars? My girlfreind
is getting real cold now at the DRIVE-IN!!

There were two main brands Eberspacher and
Stewart-Warner. There were different types, for the
cars and the Bus. There are 6 & 12 volt ones, the
metal tag should say. The pick up tube would have to
be modified to fit the Honda gas tank. Also, you would
have to pipe up some exhaust tubing. It would take up
half or better of the sedan trunk. Either the '73 or
'74 VW Thing (a.k.a. Type 181) did not come with
heater boxes, there only form of heat was a gas
heater. You might look at some websites that sell VW
Thing parts. I have heard the gas heaters use a lot of
gas, But on the other hand they work great. There are
some on e-bay for sale, or go to thesamba.com They
have a big VW classified section.

install an oil cooler and route ducting from it to the
cabin. those gas heaters **REEK**

are obsolete,(compared to the propane units used in mobile homes?
I'm thinking for my CHEVY_VAN not the rice_unit!

I wouldn't say they are obselete, there are still a
lot of them around, and in use. There seams to be
parts available also. I would look for a Bus unit as
it should be bigger.

motor running.
