OIL PUMP INQUISITIONS!!

Post by riceburner006 »

Thanks bill,Now I have a question that has always puzzled me-WHY did
HONDA make the pump pin "full-floating" on the piston, and which way
could be better? On my "RICE_BURNER", I presently have a
piston "locktited" to the pin W/ no apparant problems. EVERY single
pump I looked at W/O exception, had scores in the pump body from pin
wear! THEY must of had reasons to do it this way! It seems like they
wanted the rod/piston/to be "free floating" with the primary
drive . Uncle Ben!

You are so right, and locking your pin in will help that area, but the upper
end will still have problems. But the piston pump is a good system it
pushes all the oil through the engine every minute at idle. That's a faire
amount of lubrication for such a small engine.
