Recently there have been questions on obtaining a title on a Honda 600 that
has lost the title or you are the third in a series of owners and no one has
titled the car. All are achieve able and I have several packages that are
really thick with documentation. I guess the hardest of them all is being
the third owner of a vehicle that was left at a shop and the owner started a
lien sale that was never titled. I spent the better part of 2.5 years
tracking one of these down only to find that the original owner (the one who
left the car at the shop for more than a year without payment) said over the
phone he would sign over the car, only to send the letter back unopened.
This is where you go back to DMV and get their assistance. And, if you
didn't get all the paper work along with it, things can get sticky. But,
after all is done you have a Honda 600 that is once again properly titled.
Below are some of the states that have helpful information on line. But
it's not on the site listings, you have to dig.
Another hard part is getting all the right parts together for the car. One
particular Coupe had the engine missing when I received the car. I had
other engines but finding the original engine was what I really wanted.
And, by tracking back to where the car had been worked on I found the engine
complete in the back of a shop that had been closed for a number of years.
Often you will find old registration certificates in the car, under the
carpet, in the glove box, in the back of the owners manual or just ask the
previous owner. You will be amazed at what people will keep. So back yard,
barn fresh Honda 600's are still out there, and don't be afraid of the "No
Title" issue, get the sales slip and information on the previous owner or
ask the seller if they will get a duplicate title and transfer it into your
name.

If the property owner/garage is applying for title, the following must be
submitted with their application (VSA17A) for title:
VSA-40, "Affidavit of Compliance Under Abandoned Motor Vehicle Act".
If registered in Virginia, a copy of the CRD93 or DMV transcript of the
vehicle record showing the last registered owner and lien holder; or
If not registered in Virginia, a certification from the state where the
vehicle is titled showing the name and address of the
owner(s)/lienholder(s). DMV will not issue a title unless this certification
is submitted.
Signed receipts for registered or certified mail that notified the owners(s)
and lienholder(s) of the location of the vehicle and your intention to apply
for a Virginia title if not claimed 30 days after notice (120 days if a
manufactured or mobile home).
If registered/certified mail is returned as "undeliverable", attach it to
this form UNOPENED.
Along with the above-mentioned items, the appropriate fees and vehicle
registration requirements must be met (i.e., insurance if the vehicle is
registered).
State - CA -
lost my title and can't find the seller who sold me the vehicle. Can I do a
lien sale?
No. You cannot conduct a lien sale on a vehicle in which you have a monetary
interest. You may submit an Application for Duplicate Title (REG 227) when
the original title has been lost, stolen or mutilated.

vehicle has been transferred, do not request a Title Search. Instead,
request a photocopy of the cancelled title. The fee is $20. Certification is
