Hello everyone, Im cleaning up my engine for storage whilst the body
gets sorted. I noticed the top 2 mounting bolts were absent for the
fan cowl,and despite great care managed to shear the bottom 2 as well!
is this common, as I don't think of myself as heavy handed and I'm
worried I may not be able to get the remaining bolts out. Your

You can use a screw extraction tool to remove the bolt. The tool looks like a reamer. You can also use a small size pin punch and hammer. If the bolt is frozen, soak it in penetrating oil to loosen it.
I've seem broken bolts in that section. Sometimes it is because the bolt is the wrong grade, sometimes because the person used one which is slightly long and they continued to tighten after it had bottomed out.
Also, those bolts see some vibration which puts some shear stress on them which weakens them after 30+ years.
