Hello everyone.
I am having trouble with oil leak on the rear of my Z600 engine I am
repairing. I've seen Bill's mention on the board of the Hayne's
manual (which I am using) having the wrong torque sequence. But I
cannot find what the proper one is. Also, it states that the domed
nuts , (of which I have four) are to be torqued to 23 ft/lb, and the
others to 9 ft/lb. This sound really low to me. Do they mean only
the four domed cylinder nuts are 23 ft/lb while the other four
cylinder nuts are 9ft/lb? This is what I tried. But now I am
thinking that all eight cylinder bolts should be at least 23 ft/lb.
Makes more sense to me to have all the bolts surrounding the cylinders
to be the same.
Anybody have the correct numbers and sequence?

Hi Jeff,
The torque on the larger head bolts/nut (10mm) should be in the range of 26.7 to 31.1 ft-lbs. You have 8 of these larger nuts to torque. The torque on the smaller bolts (6mm) should be in the range of 7.2 to 10.1 ft-lbs. One of the other members on this group has the manuals at his website. Click here , I think this is the location of the service manuals which will show the torque sequence.
I will try to describe the torque sequence on the 10mm nuts.....if you are standing in front of the car, the valve cover is off, and looking down at the valve train area, you should see eight 10mm nuts (two of them will have acorn heads). 4 of the nuts will be toward the carb and 4 will be on the side near the exhaust. If I start at the nut located farthest away (on the carb side) and to the left and proceed in a clockwise rotation, the torque number sequence is:
8-1-3-5-7-2-4-6 with 1 and 3 being the acorn nuts on the carb side.
When you torque the nuts, start with #1 (an acorn head) and proceed through #8. I torque the nuts to 30 ft-lbs and do it in 3 steps. First I torque all the nuts to 10 ft-lbs, then 20, then 30. The 10mm nuts are the important ones to torque properly since they are doing the major work. .
