No, good guess but wrong answer. Honda 600 chassis (VIN) never matched the engine number.
Engine numbers are related to the country they were sent to and all N600's were numbered from the beginning to the end of production. The same is for the Z Coupe. And engine numbers were not always relative to production, rather they were significant to the month of production and not specific to any single day in the month.

Hi Bill,
I believe we have a misunderstanding. On the Vin tag under the hood of the car, two numbers can be found. One is the engine ID # and the other is the vehicle ID #. On a new vehicle, the number found on the engine did match the engine ID # found on the tag under the hood.

In the beginning; a statement that acknowledges the fact that engine number 1 and chassis number 1 were in fact the same vehicle. Depending on the country code the probability is there, most likely in Japan. Just not for the US market. And, given the fact that I also have a Hondamatic that has chassis number 10001188 with engine number 5000035 as a Test Vehicle, chances are remote, as there were a number of engines and chassis during the test phase for many countries.
The term "Matching Numbers" is what your looking at. This too is a stretch as Honda also sold unmarked data plates, however all chassis were stamped.
