When i am going 60mph by the speedometer i am going 55 and the
speedometer is steady. that works for me.

Question.. the motor seems to be getting to hot when i am done
driving. just had the motor worked on and dont see any oil leaks.
Timing looks to be correct.. any ideas?

It is normal for the motor to get hot.  If you were to pour water on the valve cover,
it would boil.  How hot is your engine getting?  You might put a thermometer on
the valve cover or measure the oil temperature or use a thermometer gun which you can aim at the
engine and get a reading.  I'm guessing the normal temperature
is somewhere between 250 and 300 degrees F.   Regular motor oil loses
viscosity somewhere between 350 and 400 degrees and I have not had that problem
since it would be making all my cranks go bye-bye.
Let us know what you learn,

Or, you could ask some one how to put on a remote filter and plumb in oil temp and pressure gauges.   Cylinder head temp will maintain a steady 360 degrees or so.   The Oil temp will be between 185 and 200 with an oil cooler.  Without the cooler oil will stay at roughly 190 to 210 on the freeways.  When you come down off the freeway and stop at the first light the oil temp will spike at 250 and up.   If you open your valve cover and see a brownish black residue on the inside of the casings they your oil is getting to hot.

I have been looking into the remote filter and all but for right now I am way over budget on this car.  I had one in 72 for three years in a hot area and cant remember the hot smell..  but that might be me.. lol.  live on the Oregon coast now and much cooler.   looks like the oil cooler will only help be about 10 degrees or so.

Tom,  did you take the speedo cable loose from underneath to grease it.
Mine has started to jump back and forth on me.  I'm a little feller with little hands and cant get into the back of speedo.  They must of used midgets to build these little cars.  Put a hundred miles on mine yesterday.  Had a new exhaust pipe and muffler put on and it is louder now than with the old one that was full of holes.  Sounds like a big motorcycle with the baffles knocked out.

I find it is easier to work on the speedo cable from under the hood.
Where it connects at the reverse gear cover (next to starter motor),  I unscrew it and the cable is accessible.  Don't mess with the 10mm bolt on the side of the cover which holds the speedo gear in position.  Just unscrew the fitting to which the cable is connected (you may need to use channel lock (or other) pliers).  When you insert the cable back into the speedo gear,  there is a key you will see on the cable and a keyway on the speedo gear.
good luck,
Dale

Cotton;
There is lots of room to get at the back of the speedometer if you undo the cable from the engine case and push the cable through from the engine compartment into the back side of the dash.  Unplug the lights and it will fall into your hands.

the speedometer just clips in with to clips but can be hard to pull out do to rust on the clips..  the speedo pulls out towards you than you can disconnect it from the back.  disconnect from the motor and grease it.  it did not work for me
