engine parts
Just bought a 71 Honda 600 sedan with 96,000 miles on the motor. It has been sitting for 20 years in a shed in Springfield , VT. The car has California plates on it. The body is in very good condition so I plan on restoring it to running condition. The motor does turn over, but there is no compression on one side. The other side, i am having trouble getting the spark plug out. Are pistons and rings and so on and so forth available for these motors. Appreciate any help here.

As a minimum, you are going to need to pull the cylinder head and run a spark plug chaser through the threaded holes and resurface the valves.
Don't forget to check the head flatness. If you are sending it into a machine shop, they will do all this for you ..... if you tell them.
With the cylinder head off, you can check the condition of the cylinder bore to see how it is wearing. But if you are pulling the cylinder head, it is only 3 more bolts to remove the cylinder and check out the crank, pistons, rings, and don't forget the cam chain (it may be stretched).
Don't buy any pistons and rings unless you determine they are necessary. The first indicator will be if the piston skirts are smooth or scratched. If smooth, they may be ok. Do the rings rotate freely in their ring grooves or are they frozen? If they rotate freely, they may be ok. The next step is to measure them. You may find they are still in good shape and all you need to do is clean up the pistons. BTW, you don't need any special automotive tools to work on this section of the engine. The tapered cylinder makes it easy to reinsert the pistons and the piston pins are held in place with retaining rings (use need nose pliers or a small screwdriver or scratch awl to remove).
While the cylinder head can be removed with engine in the car, I find it easier to pull the engine and work on it outside of the car. The engine comes out from the bottom of the car...not the top.
