flat towing

Hi all, my dad is preparing to flat tow his Z600 behind his motorcoach.  Are there any problems with gear
lubrication for long periods of flat towing?  Anybody have experience with this? Here are a picture of both the 1948 Spartan Motor Coach and the 72 Honda.  We chose the Honda over the Metro because of the weight and performance!  Thanks for any input.

Hi:
I hope that your dad has received the prints I made for him of his completed Z and other magnificent projects.
Sent that about a week ago. Wish I could do what he does.
I, personally, do not know what preps to make to tow the Z, but I do know people tow for cross-country trips.
Perhaps some of our members would more knowledgable.

As far as I know,flat towing should be ok on the Honda being that the differential is an integral part of the transmission and will be moving the fluid around.  I do know that some standard transmissions on RWD vehicals will be damaged.   I have towed old VWs with transaxle setup across country without a problem. But as far as the Honda, I am not positive that it will be OK, hopefully some of the big Honda 600 experts can shed more light on the subject.

Flat towing your Honda Z600 is ok.  It is even mentioned in the coupe owner's manual.  Look at page 38 of the booklet ..... don't have the booklet,  then take a look at Steve's Honda page (click here ).
Just make sure you shift into neutral, unlock the steering wheel and hook up some tow lights.
Keep in mind,  you will be wearing down the tires on the little car.

I just recently flat towed my Honda Z600 about 300 miles from southern Missouri to Kansas City. I don't think any damage was done.

I have towed a number of 600's on all 4's, most were short runs.  One time on a 200 mile run, the brakes locked up in front and before I noticed the tires were falling off the rims.  This is not a Honda 600 issue, it is towing with all 4 wheels on the ground problem.  I use a 2 wheel-haler to keep the two front wheels off the ground for long drives or transport in a box.
I am sure there are other stories.

Hey Bill, years ago I had a 600 Coupe that had a problem with the front brakes locking up. It kept building pressure in the front calipers. If I cracked open the bleeders it would release the pressure and be good for a few more stops then start locking up again. I had checked pedal free play, replaced both master cyls. and booster,still had problem. I finally checked the vacuum check valve and found it full of corrosion, replaced with a new one and problem was solved. To this day I don't understand why the check valve fixed mine.  Do you suppose the one you were towing had a problem do to, no vacuum to the booster.
