Stripped Bolts on the Camshaft Housing

Post by franknfike »

The four bolts that mount the Camshaft housing to the Cylinder Barrel are stripped - any suggestions? I've already tried Perma Coil but it just did not hold.
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom, you mean the 4 (6mm x 1) bolts that mount the cam housing to the head.
If the Perma coil stripped out, the hole is too large.
Maybe try:
*6mm x 1 Metric Key-Locking insert.
*1/4-20 perma coil as long as possible, then use 1/4-20 bolts.
*Total oversize damaged hole, cut out damaged area and weld then retap.
These repairs should be drilled and tapped in a drill press or mill.
The hole has to be on size and square.
Watch your torque, these 4 bolts only keep the oil from leaking on the outside edges. The head bolts do all the work.

I installed over 10 helli-coils in various locations of my engine during my rebuild, including the cam shaft housing.
I think the helli-coils are almost stronger than the original thread.
