Crankshaft Pulley Upside Down?

Hello,
Still working on a "no-idle hard-start" condition with my Coupe. I observed that when both pistons are at TDC, the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley is not aligned with the 'T' but is about 180 degrees opposite. Also, I used a strobe timing light, and found that the light was flashing at the timing mark when it was, again, about 180 from the 'T'. Have I got an upside down pulley?
The camshaft notch does line up, however, at TDC. Compression is good. Symptoms are still:
-needs a lot of gas to get started
-runs fine over 2000rpm
-won't idle, sputters and dies
-does not restart easily
-oddly, no matter how much pumping of the accelerator I do, the plugs do not get wet.

Elias;
Yep, you got it.  Then make sure the notch in the cam is between the opening in the cam bearing end cap.
And, check the points, and wire connections again to make sure all is in order.

Thanks Bill, but wow! Someone must have been meddling around with the car before me.
Is the pulley hard to remove? I must have to prevent the engine from turning over somehow.

Your analysis is correct with one small exception. The pully is mounted 180 degrees off, but not technically upside down, as this would cause the timing marks to be on the back of the pulley. I expect that you understood this and meant to say 180 degrees off, but just wanted to be sure that you did not try to turn it over to remount it. Just take it off and rotate it 180 degrees and remount with the timing marks facing out as before.

Chas, You are right - correct statement would be "my pulley is 180 degrees off." Luckily, cam timing appears to be correct with minimal "chain slop." Thinking out loud - if my pulley is 180 degrees off, and I set the timing as it is now mounted, what kind of trouble would that cause? Hopefully an engine that doesn't want to start or idle, just like mine!

Elias; No, use a 22mm open end wrench on the stator (area just behind the pulley bolt washer and if yours isn’t narrow enough you may have to purchase a cheap one and grind it down)  and a 17mm wrench on the bolt.  Then back it off, move the pulley back so you can turn it and reposition it 180 out.  Then reset the points, and adjust the timing using a 12 volt bulb between the blue wire setting it according to the instructions in your owners manual.
