Master Cylinder Swap

Hey group,
While looking though some old messages from 2006-09 in the 2CylinderHondas group, I found that some members had swapped their master cylinder for one from a 83 honda civic.
Anyway, I spent some time completing it and it works. I documented the process with pictures on my blog. thanks

Hi Marty;
Looks really clean, I am wondering if there is a way to modify the fluid reservoir to use the old lines with a cap on the reservoir rather than cutting the body?  But overall it looks like a clean modification.  Thanks for sharing!!

I've done this swap on two cars now, I wish no cutting was involved.

Maybe make a block to bring it out farther than make a longer push  rod?

Great master cylinder swap, Marty -- congrats! (I do also like the thought of offsetting the mounting a bit an incorporating a longer push rod in order to avoid having to cut the engine compartment sheet metal.)
I kinda like the idea of eliminating the brake booster, as was the case in Marty's adaptation. That would solve two potential problems in one mod, especially good since the brake booster can be a major pain to fix. Although a well-functioning brake system with a booster can make the 600 cars stop on a dime, I've often wondered just how necessary a brake booster really is, given the low mass of the car. Heck, a lot of air-cooled VW's never had power brakes, didn't have front disk brakes, and are a lot heavier! Even without a power brake booster, a 600 car should stop much better than an old Beetle, etc.
