So I got my new tank in the mail today and it looks really good. I mean like its amazingly gunk and rust free. It came from a coupe that had been stored in a climate controlled storage unit for 10years. So my question is this-do I still seal it or no? Did the original tank have some protection against rust? Does anyone have suggestions for a gasket sealer for my new back glass. Is ther an inexpensive one out there? I just thought I could put it in with epoxy but apparently theres more to it. the one I am replacing has epoxy all around the goggle, which has the crack by the top hinge like all of them.

I'm sure the original tank was galvanized or otherwise protected by some sort of plating process.
You might want to change the subject line to account your questions re the back glass gasket sealer.

Just a tip; The 1971 and 1972 Coupe gas tanks are attached to the body differently. Don't toss the attaching screws from your car, you may need them to install the other tank.
As to if you need to seal the other tank, not if it isn't corroded.

Nice looking Coupe; On the hatch glass, 3M has a product called Windo-Weld. It's a Ribbon Sealer part number 08612. Clean up the surface and follow the instructions on the box. I purchased it at a Auto Paints store some years back for $10.00, I doubt it's that price now.
Remember one thing, use the suggested primer on both the glass and the hatch.
You said your hatch is cracked, and you are correct that most hatches are cracked. I would remove it from the car, unbolt all the brackets and locking attachments (you can restore them while the hatch is being restored). Take the naked hatch to a body shop (that says they can repair the hatch) you will find more problems with the plastic once removed and have them repair it. Tell them what it is used for and get a written warrantee. Then at least if it cracks again, you can have them redo the hatch. It will be the best money spent.
