From the down pipe all the way back to the muffler on sedan & coupe
they use 1 1/2" tubing. You can make some easy patches by slipping 1
5/8" tubing over your rotted pipes. You can actually eliminate the
resonators in the center pipe without a huge change in performance.
The coupe then goes from 1.5" down to the 1.25" at the tail pipe. The
sedan center pipe curves and the muffler has a huge expanded flange
to accomadate a split asbestos gasket which is about 1/8" thick and
3" long. Most muffler shops elimated this part and just welded the 2
together. 1.25 is an odd size for muffler shops, but they can order
it. Typical cost is $10 per length (10').
If your sedan exhaust is too long IE: down pipe to the bend, it will
bang on the gas tank protector and drive ya nuts. Long or short
exhausts will also cause vibration to the car because they are forced
to be suspended un-naturally.
I purchased a Mandrel Bender (www.jd2.com) last year when I was
building minibikes, just got a MIG welder last week and my milling
machine arives next month. If I buy the 1.25" dies ($200.00) I can
bend a bunch of coupe tail pipes. Will post it when I get them done.
