I think you will find that it has been done quite some time ago.
I really do not think that it would be that economical unless of course war strikes and fuel price sky rocket http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/325.html  it took me a while to find which site this was in my book marks, but this guy had done the conversion.
What i would love to know in regard to the electrical substitution would the the replacement of the cooling fan, I would like to know what sort of fan was used and how it was fitted to operate, was it quieter than the mechanical system, I know there are many people out there that are also curious.
