How Many are Left? Can't buy that info!

Post by mterrens »

I called the "How Many Are Left?" guys, and when I told them I was looking for data on the Honda 600 Coupe, I was practically hung up on!  They said they couldn't help me, actually refused to give a reason why, and went so far as to say that "no one else on the planet" could help me, and therefore I "have reached a dead end" and cannot get help in this regard.
Gee.  THAT was encouraging.

So, maybe if ALL of us on this list called them, they might start thinking that there was money to be made in this, and they would do a little work...
Just a thought.

How's about we find out for ourselves? I believe every state has a
(slightly different) process for learning this information. Divide 50
states between 25 listmembers? It would cost all involved a few dollars,
but cumulatively there would be an answer.

The state will only have on file cars that are registered, of the
100+ honda 600's I have owned most were Not On File, which means
after 4 to 6 years they fall off the computer. I never register my
junk until it's ready to drive, for example I currently have 7
collector vehicles not on file, how many others have undocumented
vehicles? You can't get an acurate count.

Earlier this year, I tried going through Pennsylvania's motor vehicle
department, to try to find out how many 600's are registered in the state
(not that this is the total number of cars, of course, but it would give
some indication of how many are actually running and drivable). After
several forms, many phone calls, and several weeks of waiting, I was
eventually told that they could not give out this information to me.
I also remember calling North American Honda many years ago, to ask them how
many 600's were sold in the US. I was told that this was "proprietary"
information. Huh?? How could this information be considered proprietary or
confidential? Don't all of the other automakers routinely give this
information out? I see older cars at shows all of the time, displaying
information from the manufacturer which shows exactly how many of a specific
color, with a specific set of options, etc., were sold in a given year. And
Honda can't even tell us how many were sold?? It's frustrating, to say the
least.
