Hi All
I have just bought an N360 to go with my 1300 Coupe 9.
It is very average condition, but the engine has only
done about 3000 km since it had new pistons fitted. I
am still working on my Coupe 9, so the N360 will go
into storage, until I finish the C9.
I am told that the motor runs OK, but when I try to
start it I just get a "click" from the starter motor.
I am not yet familiar with the workings of the
starter, so I am not sure where to start looking to
make it work. I am using a fully charged battery.
I would like to be able to run the engine every so
often while the car is being stored. Are you able to
give me any hints?
I would like to hear from anybody in Christchurch, New
Zealand who has a 360?

Does the engine turn over with a spanner on the end of the crank?
Can you push start it?
The starter is also the generator. The click you describe should be
coming from the starter relay which is within the regulator assembly
near the battery. Assuming that the battery and electrical
connections are ok, the most common reason for not cranking properly
is worn brushes. To inspect the 4 brushes, remove the pulley (not
always easy) and the cover. If the brushes are worn out you will
notice that the coil spring on at least one is resting on the brush
holder, no longer applying pressure to the bushes. The second most
common reason for not cranking (assuming the above is all ok) is a
faulty armature, usually shorted to earth. The test for this is
quite simple. The least common cause is a faulty field coil
assembly.

Gudday.. I am in chch nz, and have a 360, the click and no go, maybe a problem with any of the connectionc, check all the earth wires are solid.. .. there is some other thimngs you should likely check......
just need to refer to a book...

I used to buy those dyna-start regulators from my supplier here in
the USA. It doesn't make sense though as they never really sold the
N360 here. I bought them and resold them to Kaye Whitnah a BMW Isetta
guy. Unfortunately the supplier dumped the remaining stock and I
can't get anymore. They worked great on Isetta's.
