stiff clutch pedal

Hi group,
Am putting the finishing touches on my coupe and wondered if
anyone had a thought about what could be causing my clutch
pedal to be so hard to push in. Still works ok but my fear is that it
will snap the cable or worse . . .
Can I lubricate the cable -the car had been sitting for a year or so
before I got it.

Most likely caused by sticky old binding cable. I used to lube
them,but it's better to replace it!

Stiff clutch pedal is many times cause by the diaphram spring. They
get work hardened and often crack. You might try removing the cable
and shooting TriFlow or SuperLube down it. Check the pin at the pedal
end to see if it is worn and replace it. I had to make one as it is
not a standard size.
If you have the chance to remove the clutch cover plate check the
fingers on the spring for flat spots, regrind the t/o bearing so the
working face is curved as it was when new. Apply a thin coating of
teflon grease to the fingers when reassembling.
