Does anybody know the diameter of the hawaiian exhaust header? I'm
looking at building my own out of 1 3/8" (OD) mandrel bent tubing, and
I see that I'll be shrouding the exhaust ports a bit with 1 3/8 tubing
(same diameter as the stock header that went into the heater box).
Were there ever any aftermarket headers made? anybody know what
diameter they were?
JPRO- I imagine that you've built your own headers... what did you use?

The headers I had made were built in an odd way. I brought in a head
to the shop and they builtt just the first 12" or so - which I ended
up hacking up and bringing back to make fit. Then I took 3 different
sets of 90 degree bends, each one slightly larger - I then cut them to
fit, bringing them all back in with pen marks on how they lined up.
The shop welded them up for me. You have to removce the grill and do
a lot of odd things to get them in and out.
They each go opposite directions - and only work because my battery
and heating system are no longer in the car.
Since I've actually ruptured both pipes (they are old now and had been
wrapped) I'm hoping to redo them like the original where the exahaust
travels down the front of the motor and joins sooner. But I think you
get stuck with a pretty sharp first 90 degree bend.

I've stuck my battery (now a small motorcycle sized battery) behind
the passanger seat, and my heating system is also gone. I'm planning
on building these headers with a left and a right side, ala the
hawaiian exhaust. I'm guessing that tubes about 50" long tubes are the
result.
I haven't bothered to do much research on helmholtz tuning lengths,
but I seem to remember "long tube" headers for v-8s in the 36-40"
range. based on that I'd guess that running both tubes down the
drivers side of the motor and joining maybe 32-36" later would be the
hot ticket. Shorter length for higher RPM if I remember correctly.
Is this why you are planning on running the next set of headers
together sooner? Are you trying to shorten the header tube length to
get better scavanging at higher RPMs? What about tubing diameter?
Some would say that, "zero times infinity is still zero." Those people
would be missing out on the fun.

Have you tried ordering the pipes from Honda? I have one you could
borrow if you pay shipping both ways. Mike might have a pair for sale
also keep in mind the Hawaiian pipes were standard issue on most
Euro. cars and don't forget the Hawaiian pipes only fit Hawaiian or
Euro heads. USA exhaust ports straight out the front.

the head nuts on.
