I had a factory stand too. Great for rebuilds until you have to take
down the engine. The stand is very heavy and has roll around wheels
and was painted red. No one would buy it when I moved out of Santa
Clara Ca, I think may have gotten $50.00 for it and a ton of parts.
When I first began working on Honda 600's I made an engine stand from
and old drill press and a front engine support bar. I could crank the
engine up and down to any height I wanted and it rotated a full 360
degrees.

Re: Factory Engine Stand
I want to make an adapter for my engine stand to fit the Honda engine.
The 2 holes in the front of the cases are good.
What about supporting the rear?
Could not find any pictures.
Thanks
Lyle

Re: Factory Engine Stand
Hi Lyle,
I made an engine stand by taking the front mount bracket which uses 4 bolts to the engine front, welded a pipe to the middle of it, and put this assembly into a standard engine stand. No support at the rear. I have never had a problem.

Re: Factory Engine Stand
Dale, I don't have an extra front mount, but will see if I have a piece of 1/4 plate I can use.
Then weld a pipe like you said.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Factory Engine Stand
I made an engine stand from an old drill press base (leaving off the motor and head). I welded a front cross member to where the table would mount and left the part on where it could rotate fully. It was the type of drill press that had a hand crank for raising/lowering the table so it was easy to get the engine off the ground to correct working height.

Re: Factory Engine Stand
Bolted my engine to my stand, thanks Dale.
The plate on my engine stand was just large enough to get the 4 front bolts in. Made(2) 1/2" spacers and (2) 1" spacers.
4)8mm x 1.25 X 60mm bolts.
Worked great.
Pulled the rest of my engine apart today!
See photo.

Re: Factory Engine Stand
Hi Lyle,
It was pretty simple to make mine and it sounds like you had an easy time. I think others on this newsgroup would like the adapter you have made.

Re: Factory Engine Stand
Dale;
Honda used a rear bracket on their engine stand because it was made to allow starting the engine outside of the car. And it worked really well. It's nice to hear your engine run before installing it.
