Car stalls when slowing down.

I think I have this figured out, but I thought I'd throw it by you guys in hopes that someone can confirm my theory.
Background:
I recently realized my fuel filter was on backwards, so I fixed it. I should have just replaced it because I later realized that all of the gunk trapped in it was then sent into the carb. I cleaned some of that out the other day (jets were a little gunked up). I'm hoping it didn't do any worse damage.
After I replaced the spark plugs the other day with the proper plugs, gapped properly and everything else (according to my chilton manual at least) I had to drive to help a friend get their car started. It drove to my friend's house without a problem, but on the drive back EVERY time I came to a stop the car would die. The car would, however, idle fine when I started it up. It would only die after I got up to a reasonable speed and then stopped.
My first thought was the fuel filter, so I changed it along with the fuel lines. I then checked my points and the gab had somehow changed, so I fixed that. I was certain it was fixed, but it wasn't...
recleaned the carb and put it back together and now it's having much less of an issue. The car gets close to dieing when I stop now, but it doesn't die all of the way.
After doing a little reading My conclusion is as follows: The vacuum advance, vacuum line, or carb is clogged. This is probably due to the gunk from the fuel filter that I found in the carb. This would explain why it would idle fine when I started the car, and would run (even sometimes with less power than normal) and explains why it would die when the car is slowing down... the timing changes depending on vaccuum, and when it can't get proper feedback from the vaccuum hose the timing is going to be off too much and will stall.
Anyway, that is my idea. Does it sound plausible?

Hi Matt;
You need to go to the files section of the ANZ groups site and read the
e-mail I sent on the braker plate all Honda 600's will have if driven long
enough.

Will this explain the car dieing when I slow down, or is it just a fix to the point gap issue?
