Frustration Continued

Post by Bill »

Well, got out the air compressor and half inch impact wrench to get
the tensioner off today. Still no luck. Beat that thing silly. I
put everything back together and went for a spin. Still coughing up
around 30-35 miles an hour. I am hoping it is still something that
you all have suggested other than the chain timing. It did run well
for a couple minutes when I put the new plugs in. I guess I will
replace what I have left to replace in the hopes it is electrical.
New rebuilt coil with wires, plugs, battery, and belt. By the way, I
went to get a Gates 7425 belt and they have "teeth" now and it was too
big. Luckily I had another older new belt that came with the car.
Guess i'll try points and condensor next. Thanks for all the input
from everyone. Sorry to have been a pest.

Hi Bill
Thanks for keeping us up do date. It runs good for a while then starts
having problems. Just for kicks, pull the carb, open the bottom and check
under the needle valve. I remember a bit of junk that was keeping fuel from
getting where it's supposed to go. But you said it doesn't feel like it's
starving for fuel. But what you are talking about sure sounds a lot like a
fuel problem.

i did take the carb apart to clean it. It is leaking a little fuel
from the bottom. The rubber diaphram on the pump part is deformed and
doesn't seal good. I believe Miles or someone had and o-ring that I
could use. Maybe I'll do the carb again. The last carb rebuild kit
on eBay went for $52 I think (I was outbid). Is there any air filters
available for less than the forty dollar one on eBay?

Hello! The carb kit does not have the pump diaphram. Mike O conner
may have one. They are expensive because of being N/A from Honda. If
you can wait, you should be able to get a filter for around $12-
#15.The carb probably is leaking from that diaphram, and there is no
gasket or seal there. riceburner006
