Arcane Auto Group Meeting Saturday in San Francisco

Post by Miles »

As my Honda 600 is still off the road, I will be driving my Beck
Spyder. The following was sent to me by the Arcane Group, of which I
am a member.

As many of you already know, this Saturday is the 25th Annual (as
best we can recall) Arcane Auto Society Annual Business Meeting and
Pot Luck Road Kill Brunch.
This note is being sent both to the Arcane Auto Society Group of
Yahoos as well as to those members and friends who have advised us
of their e-mail address, so please forgive us if you receive more
than one copy of this mail. For those of you living outside of the
San Francisco Bay Area, this one day event is typically just several
hours long, so doesn't warrant a special flight into San Francisco
via your private corporate jet just to attend. If, however, you
reside within a reasonable driving distance, it makes a lot of
sense, as this is usually our single biggest gathering of the year.
With those niceties out of the way, on to the details:
The Annual Meet will be held Saturday March 24, 2007 beginning at
11:00 a.m. at Cowden Automotive, 875 Folsom Street, San Francisco.
Please join us for several hours of visiting old friends (both
people and those of a mechanical persuasion), eating the food you
brung and electing a crop of fresh faced eager volunteers to steward
the Club through another year. Since this is a pot luck feast,
please bring a dish to share. For the uninitiated, this ought to be
something large enough to serve 6 - 10 and can range from pastries
to real food like a casserole or stew. Note that cooking facilities
at the garage are essentially limited to a warming oven and a burner
or two, so don't plan to bake that Flattened Squirrel Flamb on-
site. Soft drinks, paper plates, napkins and high-end plastic
eating utensils will be provided by the Club. In addition to that
special dish, bring along your latest and weirdest automotive
acquisition for others to oogle, your ideas for devising fun places
to visit and/or drive to and, if you have a particular talent (or
even if you don't), your energy to help the Club carry on into the
next year. And remember; if you fail to show for this event, you run
the risk of be elected El Presidente in Abstentia. Hey, it's
happened before.
You old timers may have noted that we're going to start a little
later in the morning than in the past, so don't show up at 8:00 a.m.
expecting to drive right in and pluck that primo spot up near the
front door, unless you want to cool your heels out front for a
couple of hours until the rest of us arrive. However, those who
have attended over the last few years know that we've been
packin' `em in at Cowden's in recent years, so don't dilly dally,
either, or you may find your car spends the day whining from the
street out front.
As mentioned, this event is typically the Club's largest of the
year. If you're new to the Arcane Auto Society or if you're a guest
who might come to see if this group is for you, here's your chance
to see probably the widest array of members' cars you're likely to
see all year. Since we spend a lot of time commiserating and
talking `weird car talk' and comparatively little time on
real `business' you will be able to get up close and personal with a
lot of obscure little (and not so little) vehicles & chat with their
owners. Want to see what one looks like in the flesh? Want to chat
with someone who's solved that problem you're currently struggling
with? Want to explore parts & info resources? The place to be will
be Cowden Automotive on March 24th. In times past, folks would
frequently take admirers for a spin around the block in their little
jewel, but with as many cars as we're stuffing into the ol' garage
these days, that's become a bit more difficult. But it still
happens as the day goes on. It really is a fun day, with good
people, wonderful cars and loads of camaraderie. Please join us if
you can.
