Oil Filters and Ingnition Coil

The cars I bought came with 3 original NOS Honda Oil filters. I used
one this weekend when I attempted to get the N600 running. I went to
a couple of parts stores and tried to do the cross references on the
part numbers I had. Does Honda still make these? Does anyone have a
new part number? What are people doing for oil filters?
This is what was on my NOS filters
15461-551-315
which I guess was superseded by 06154-551-505
I found reference to what seems like a current KMC part number: KMC-801
Also kinda a strange issue I had when trying to get the car running.
I put new plug in, but realized that they were different than the ones
that were on the car already--the ones on the car have a screw-on type
terminal. I tried putting 8ES in, but of course the wires didn't fit.
What are people doing for new spark plug wires, and a new coil? It is
an all-in-one integrated unit. I'd like to be able to replace it, but
it seems to be different than most of the other coils I've seen in
that 1) the plug wires are integral, 2) the plug wires go direct to
the plugs, rather than go to a distributor. I've done some research
and it looks like Accel makes a really nice universal coil for 2
cylinders, twin tower, but with separate wires, etc.
Has anyone attempted to use an aftermarket coil? I assume I need the
non-CDI type unit, right?

On your spark plug (NGK B8ES or similar),  the connector will unscrew from the spark plug and reveal a threaded terminal.  The Honda OEM spark plug wires on the Z600 required you to unscrew the cap from the spark plug (to reveal the threaded terminal) before the connector coming from the igniton coil could be pushed onto the spark plug.
You can replace the connector on the end of the spark plug wire with one which does not require you to remove the cap from the spark plug.  Spark plug connectors are found at any auto parts store (or motorcycle parts store).
The Yahoo site for this group has a description on replacing the spark plug wires of your ignition coil.  Or you can purchase a new coil from Accel or motorcycle parts supplier.
The ignition system on a Honda 600 avoids using a rotor and cap assembly for the distributor by firing the spark plugs twice .... just before the power stroke and at the end of the exhaust stroke.   The cam profile dictates the power stroke order .... it alternates between left and right cylinders.  If you have a faulty igniton system which is causing the spark plug to not fire some of the time,  you run the risk of having the air/fuel mixture not igniting during the power stroke but it may fire during the exhaust stroke.

Thanks for the info... That makes sense, will take a closer look at the spark plugs.�
I searched all over the Yahoo groups page for this group, didn't see anything about replacing spark plug wires.� THe AnZ600 group had some files listed, but nothing about spark plug wires.� Do you know where on the site it is?

The current part number for oil filters is 06154-551-505. I order
them 30 at a time from Honda. I sell them on eBay in my eBay Store
for $15.00 which I realize is probably higher tha Honda retail, but
is a convienience item and after eBay has their way with me, I am
probably making regular Honda retail.
Recently over the past few months ignition points have been
discontinued and a couple years ago condencers were deleted from
Honda's stock. Oil filters have also run out several years ago. I
sold a new coil on eBay this year for $137.00, but the guy had to
have it for a restoration. I have had good luck with aftermarket
Harley Davidson coils.

I tried looking at the member's Yahoo site for the ignition coil info and found that I could log in but I was not able to access the member's area.
So,  I can't give you any more details until I get my problem resolved.  One of the others may be able to give some insight on the post for changing the spark plug wires at the coil.
