Does the Megasquirt system include an electronic igniton system?   The electronic igniton system which KC has mentioned should work with a carb or fuel injection.  Sounds like I can have electronic ignition for $350 and a fuel injection system for $350.
Does anyone have any experience with fuel injection on a Honda 600?
The system can only be as good as the sensors and the programming.  The Honda 600 doesn't have the necessary sensors and what aftermarket company would have a good mapping program for the 600?   I would not want to put a fuel injection system on a 600 if it compromised my fuel economy.

Yes, the megasquirt can either control a single coil with a distributor,
or better yet individual coils. You can do a whole setup for $500 with
some junkyarding and careful planning. GM makes the coolant and air
temp sensors. Standard 3/8 NPT threading making them easy to install,
either by drilling and tapping or welding an NPT bung on. The biggest
obstacle I see is the throttle body and injectors, but an adaptor could
be made easily for the throttle bodies and injectors could be installed
by welding on bungs to the intake manifold. Fuel rail, I bet a Subaru
one may be able to work :-) Worse fuel mileage? HAH! There is a
reason that modern EFI cars get such good fuel mileage even with 5000lb
chassis and 7 litre engines. Can you imagine this small 2 cylinder with
optimum timing and fueling? It'd get better mileage /and /have more
power then when new. Mapping needs to be done on a dyno for the first
one, as I would guess you'd be breaking new ground on this one. Let me
know if you are in the Northeast, I have just that tool! I've done over
30 successful MS conversions, plus tuned thousands of other vehicles.
I'm going to get mine running with Megasquirt, then perhaps offer a bolt
on kit for other 600 owners. I guess I'm an unorthodox whippersnapper,
but I just love EFI!

Fuel Injection (was Re: A real plug and play Electronic Ignition is

We've put an Electromotive WinTec3 on Evil Tweety. Really overkill,
since it would probably cost at least $2000 for parts plus some
fabrication. I think there are some photos in the photo section.
(The way we did it, you lose the fan pully.)
I'm really curious about trying out Megasquirt, but don't have the
time or $$$. (I'd make an adapter and plug it into my WinTec loom -
the wintec actually has more wired in than the Megasquirt needs.)
EFI (if done right) would improve fuel efficiency. And on the mapping
end - it's all the same formulas, so some of the companies have
software that does fairly well - but it will take dyno time to really
get it spot on.

I read a post on here that said the points and carburator from a
GL1000 are nearly the same as the ones on our Honda's. If this is
true then wouldn't it be possible to modify an electronic ignition
kit made for a GL1000 to work on a N/Z 600? I was wondering because
there is a plug and play electronic ignition kit made to upgrade a
GL1000 on Ebay for $139 buy it now. Anyone know if this would be
possible?

That depends on how far the jump is related to the plate that the
points mount to and the part that moves the points.
(Saying that the points are similar and wanting to use the other
hardware is like saying the plugs are the same and you want to swap
heads . . . the other key parts might be very very different . . . ;-)

Yes but in theory, even if you had to modify the plate to get the
spacing right, it could work couldn't it? Just a thought seeing as
the kit on Ebay can be bought for under $150, it might be worth the
extra effort and it might just fit under the stock points cover so it
would look original from the outside. Also it would be beneficial
because it doesn't require any sort of "brain box" to control it. I
think I'm going to give it a try. If it works I'll be sure to post
my results.

Another option is the magnaspark system that came on the CHRYSLER
OUTBOARDS , was a CDI amplifier that uses contact set as signal to
ground, the contact set life increase many times

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't the GL1000 4 cylinders? So the
ignition system would have 4 triggers instead of two . . . or maybe
I'm not getting how you intend to use it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a GL1000 basically
uses 2 of the same ignition systems that are on our 600's. The
points are the same, the coils are the same, there are just 2 of
them because there are 4 cylinders. Our 600's use 1 set of points
which triggers 1 coil which sends spark to 2 cylinders
simultaneously. A GL1000 is the same except that it has 2 sets of
points which each trigger their own coil (2 of them), which fires 1
bank (left 2 cylinders or right 2 cylinders)of the engine at a time.
Thus running 4 cylinders. If you look at the coils off of a GL1000
there are almost exactly the same, there are just two of them. So
my theory is that if I were to modify a electronic ignition kit from
a GL1000 by basically only using one half of it, I stand a good
chance at getting it to work. I am not guaranteeing anything, it's
just a thought I had while surfing for parts on Ebay one night and I
decided to post it here to get some input and see if anyone else had
thought of/tried it in the past.
