Crank Bearing size variations.

Post by Marshall »

Just my luck. I've bought an N600 Automatic Engine less pistons, barrel & head.
The left hand con rod big end has been badly damaged, the rest of the engine looks in very good condition & seems as though the con rod failed very early in it's life.
My bad luck has shown up in the form of this particular engine having the smaller big end dimension. Both spline diameter & big end journal diameter seemed to have been the same @ 34mm .......... no chance of a regrind.
I'm not giving up. I'm going to try & build up the journal with small "buttons" of weld, regrind & press fit an inner roller bearing shell.
The con rod big end should have enough material to take a regrind.
I have posted two photos.
Has anybody tried this before ?

It would be awesome if you could post some pictures of your engine.

Kev, I live in The United Kingdom. I went & collected The Hondamatic Engine from the seller in Lancaster, Northern England last week. I am again driving up there to also tow back a complete Hondamatic car..... it's bodywork is in a poor state but mechanically complete with 54,000 miles on the clock. Cost of car & spare engine was 150

It would probably work but you will need perfectly sterile environment when welding.

Awesome! I suppose the Hondamatic may have been less rare in the UK. I seriously doubt you can get parts for them. Pictures on the group would be much appreciated.

It will be a great shame if I cannot repair the crank. The automatic engine has a different drive end on the crank compared to the manual engine.
