Honda 600 Exhaust Gaskets

I'm looking for a complete exhaust gasket set for my 1972 Z 600 with a Hawaiian engine, but standard heat exchanger exhaust. I think I can reuse the manifold to head exhaust gaskets but the heat exchanger flange gaskets are toast. I have noticed that most 600 vendors don't have these listed. I was going to make some, but then thought,..... they may still be available someplace.

Mark - I don't see how you have a Hawaiian head on your coupe and are using the mainland stock exhaust gaskets. ? I watched your vid but still don't see the details. I don't list the gaskets as they don't come to me very often. I sold my last set for $120.oo (may exceed the value of your coupe) :-P
I do list the head to manifold gaskets but you can still get those from Honda or from a bike shop by matching diameter.

Looks like a standard 36hp coupe engine to me. If it has a heat exchanger then it doesn't have the Hawaiian head. Also only has the regular carb and not the big bore carb. So if this is just a regular stock engine Bill Colford should have gaskets.

Thanks! I know my Coupe is not worth much.... and......I thought heat exchanger gaskets were hard to come by.
The exhaust ports come out at slight angles, not straight out. I heard this was the tell tale sign of Hawaiian head ? and the big intake boot.

Yep, the Hawaiian carb looks like the early carb with sheetmetal top held on with 4 screws except it appears to be on steroids. The Hawaiian head has 2 separate pipes going to a Y pipe below the subframe. You can contact Bill: billmyong@...
I don't know that he has those gaskets though. The steel rule dies are expensive. The one for the head gasket was going to cost me $450.oo and the smaller ones were $380ea like for the small cam gaskets.

There was actually 2 different versions of the carb. The early one had the steel top and the later one had a aluminium top cap. If I remember correctly the stock carb is 36mm and the Hawaiian/big bore was 40mm. All the manifolds I ever saw didn't have a vacuum port for a brake booster on them either.

There were actually three carbs. The first two had metal tops. They were the "big bore" Hawiian and the smaller "mainland" carb. Both had a rubber diaphragm vacuum piston. For durability, they changed to the all metal vacuum piston and alloy vacuum chamber. As I recall, the larger early Hawiian intake manifold did not have a vacuum port for the brake booster.
There was some concern about exhaust leaks and CO reaching the cabin. Not good for driver, passengers or ultimately the car. That is why they went from the early "O-ring" gaskets (4) to the three "paper" heat exchanger gaskets. As for the Hawaiian head, the exhaust ports point down and to the outside to accomdate the pipes which do the same.
Some people did install Hawaiian cams on standard engines. With a standard carb, manifold and ports, the benefit may be more psychological than anything else. Check your spark plugs for condition...either fouling or burned electrodes.

Actually then it was 4 different carbs. They had two different "Big Bore" carbs. The first ones had the steel metal top and the last ones that Honda was selling in parts had a aluminum top cover. They both used the rubber diaphram. Correct me if I'm wrong but they were 40mm and then the stock mainland carbs were 36mm. Then you have the new style metal piston carb.
I ran the later model big bore and big cam in a coupe in the early 80's when you could still by parts. I had the Honda big cam and a Isky cam. At the time Honda America didn't sell the cams and I bought mine from you Don when you were still selling the honda stuff.
Keep in mind that the 45hp engine had its rating at 7000 rpm. The 36hp engine was rated at 6000 rpm. So in order to see all of this power you have to spin the engine faster. Like Don has said you might see some changes in power but you need to have the parts to back it up. Even when the parts were still fresh I could start smashing down the drive damper after 30-40k miles. This was back when I ran the piss out of mine and parts were no issues.
