mechanical symptom advice ???
hey folks, I don't know if you guys do this, I'm hoping your collective expertise can tell me what I'm missing:
my '71 N600 Won't Idle!. I feel like I've been trying to keep it from stalling for 10 years! but that parinoia might be because that's how long it has sporatically stalled While I'm Barreling Along in the Fast Lane! at the advice of various mechanics, I &/or they have: swapped out the fuel pump, batttery, spark plugs / leads, cleaned carborater & air filter, ...I don't know what else! & these things haven't worn out again; barely driven over past several years because it's so depressing : sometimes the problem is solved for 3blocks!, 10 miles, 1 month,...
last thing done was new fuel filter. (~2weeks ago) & I paid a mechacic alot to get to the bottom of this problem; that's all he did, & now it's theatening to stall again! {I really donot wish to disparage this last guy. everyone who has worked on or helpedme work on this issue, says "yeah, that's not a problem anymore" or worse"it never was"} anyway, I had thought the fuel filter made sense. :( Now What???

I would take the carb apart and clean out the inner parts if you havnt done so I'm betting the problem is with in the carb ..... You can use a carb kit from an early goldwing motorcycle 74-76 I believe you can find these on eBay Sent from my iPhone

Re: mechanical symptom advice ???
Are you sure it is only during idle? because you said that it stalled while you were barreling along in the fast lane. If it were a fuel starvation issue, it would occur at higher RPMs as well. If it were a clogged idle jet, it would just happen at idle.
Sounds like an intermittent electrical problem to me. Possibly a bad ground from engine or more likely, a loose wore or short at the points or condenser. Check for broken wire insulation or a missing or bad insulator washer.
It could also very likely be a bad ignition coil or condenser, which would be worse as the coil heats up.

Re: diditRe: [2cylinderhondas] mechanical symptom advice ???
my car was recently being a little bitchy as well, fully rebuilt carb by Miles, less than 200 miles ago, new fuel filter, all new NOS points, condenser, new timing chain, valves adjusted, spark plugs, vacuum advance was working fine, literally everything had been checked over and over/gone through and all was within spec and it was timed multiple times using a static light. still it would sputter/bog down on me every now and then when taking off at a stop light or if i shifted into too high of a gear for the rpms. even would die sometimes at a stop light for no reason.
i advanced the timing ever so slightly and it runs better than ever.
maybe that will do the trick for you as well.

Re: mechanical symptom advice ???
Hi Skip,
If your car works at 55 mph (which requires lots of air and lots of fuel) but doesn't work well at idle (which requires only a little fuel and a little air) then the problem is NOT going to be with the
a) fuel pump
b) battery
c) air filter
d) spark plugs
e) fuel filter
Your problem is most likely in
a) the idle circuit of the carb
b) vacuum leak (check the boot where the carb attaches to the engine
c) problems with the pistons rings / engine compression
d) ignition/ timing
The problem is usually the carb or vacuum leak.
good luck,
Dale
PS you seem to have spent some bucks not getting your problems solved. Your money would have been better spent going over to the local community college and taking a course on how a car works.
