inconsistant idle
my coupe will not idle right all the time..I cleaned out the carb and used compressed air and carb cleaner...sometimes is it very smooth but if you hit the gas and then let go..it will stumble and some times die..always starts again...maybe a vacuum leak? it changes all the time... or maybe more dirt came out of the gas line? in tank carb cleaner might help?

Re: inconsistant idle
Turn the engine on and let it idle for a few minutes, this will fill the carb float chamber. Turn the engine off and remove the bellows between the air filter and the carb. Open the the choke and quickly open the throttle. You should see a quirt of fuel from the accelerator pump. If not check the stroke on the accelerator pump rod. If the stroke appears correct remove the carb and inspect the pump diaphragm for rips and tears. (While driving, if the throttle is "stabbed" the air speed passing through the carb will drop to the point where no fuel wwill be drawn into the air stream. The accelerator pump compensates for the drop in fuel delivery,) Good luck
