If you don’t like the way Miles runs this group. Leave the group.

WOW! If someone is dishonest in the group, are we not for supporting each other,
by warning the group to be aware of such dishonest dealings.
Miles, you have my sincere respect for giving our Honda friends a voice.
Thank you.

Ray et al,
Tim is not in this group, he had to get the back stabbing comments second hand.
I have known Tim for 25 years, he has been to my house and I have been to his
and his fathers. He used to buy my rebuilt masters and when I needed starter
cores he sent me 6 at no charge, he gave me a bunch of NOS brake master cylinder
parts for free once as he knew I could use them.
It's a 3 way street, not everyone
is going to like everyone in the world of Honda.

Re: Watch out
I have purchased a few things from Mr. Tim but one day back in 2011 I towed one of my two honda. An-600's that I wanted to get fully restored to his shop for him to rewire it (btw my car did not have the front support at that time because it was still been restored ) and he came out of his place and saw my car and went back inside his shop and came back with a camera and asked me to stand next to my car and he started to take pictures of me, my brother and my car and after he finished taking pictures he told me to leave and never come back and I was asking him why was he acting like that and he totally ignored me so we left from there.
2 weeks later I received a call from a detective asking me several questions in regards to my personal info such as work, adress, and where I keep my cars.
Long story short, talking to a couple people I find out that he had been robbed and some of his important equipment was gone including an engine stand and he most likely thought that it was me who did it because my car did not have the front head lights support.
I still have both cars, but the one I took to him to be rewired is still in my garage just sleeping.
I just feel that it was really immature of him to accused me and treat me the way he did with out any proof.

Re: Watch out [6 Attachments]
Actually these types of posts are helpful to me. I have had dealings with Tim Mings over many years and though he is an excellent Honda 600 mechanic and has done great work on my car, I felt he was not entirely up front with me personally. The last time I saw him face to face, he told me he is now retired from working on Honda 600's and subsequently he refused to answer phone calls or emails from me. I was simply requesting if he could recommend someone else. Then a few years later, I am Reading this glowing article about the Honda 600 NUMBER 1 that he is doing a complete restore, set to debut at a Long Beach auto show, then to be housed at the Honda headquarters back east. Somehow the figure $40,000 plus dollars sticks in my head but I am not sure. Congratulations Tim for coming out of retirement. I had given him a custom engine stand that I had designed as a good will gesture. Who knows? Perhaps that engine stand was the one that was stolen? I do not wish him ill, or anyone else for that matter, but it seems that his manner of dealing with people in general could use some improvement. Peace to you all.
Garth

Re: Watch out [6 Attachments]
I, too, like to hear all information about parts and service suppliers, and the forum is a great place for each party to voice their opinions and defenses if necessary, and the reader has to read between the lines to determine whether it is a valid criticism or just sour grapes from someone who was not happy with the events that transpired.
If Tim discouraged an owner from restoring a very nice car, only to acquire it himself as a commission for placing a lesser car with that owner, that would be unfortunate, and would certainly not reflect well on his business. If however, the story is different than what was reported, then the fault may lie with the customer. Unless both sides are heard from, it is hard to source the truth of what happened.
As far as Garths comments, Tim certainly is entitled to retire from the restoration business, and he is not obligated to explain or justify that to you or anyone else. He is also entirely entitled to take or decline work as he sees fit, whether or not he is retired. Perhaps he did not wish to continue working on other peoples cars when you inquired, and perhaps he later changed his mind. He is under no obligation to inform you of that mind change or to accept your work before another project that he prefers to work on.
Perhaps your job was not lucrative enough, or interesting enough, or any other reason that is totally within Tims rigths and preferences. I would certainly understand any craftsman who decided to stop working on other peoples restorations. It is an exhausting and thankless job most of the time, and people constantly find fault or problems and seldom acknowledge when you have done a fantastic job. I can also certainly understand that the lure and intrigue, and financial benefits of restoring Honda Number One for the Honda Corporation would be extremely persuasive in pulling Tim or anyone else out of retirement!
In short, he has no obligation to clear these decisions with you, or to put your restoration at the front of the list when and if he decides to re-enter the restoration business. Any businessman is entitled to accept or decline projects as they see fit. That is why so many shops would prefer to hang new plastic fenders on Toyota Prius than to embark on a total restoration of a rusty old relic like the stuff that we collect.
Just my two cents worth.
Chas

Re: Watch out
Chas. Thank you for your comments. In your remarks you are inferring a number of things that I did not imply. Please take my remarks at face value and do not 'read into' them. This frum may be the only manner in which I can communicate with Tim Mings although indirectly, so I want to be clear that I am happy for him that he had an opportunity to come out of retirement. Just curious, has anyone else on this list ever been told by Tim Mings that he is retired? I would still like to count Tim Mings as a friend not just a provider of service. That is the bottom line here. I have discussed this matter in some detail on the phone with 'Bill' M. Young, just so you know. Out of respect for Bill and for Tim, there is no need for me to say more.
Wishing you all well.
Garth

Re: [2cylinderhondas] Watch out
I, too, like to hear all information about parts and service suppliers, and the forum is a great place for each party to voice their opinions and defenses if necessary, and the reader has to read between the lines to determine whether it is a valid criticism or just sour grapes from someone who was not happy with the events that transpired.
Chas
