1.5 Year Project Running, but not Moving Under its own Power
1.5 Year Project Running, but not Moving Under its own Power
Hello 2cylinerhanda Fans,
I am in need of your help. I have been working on my 1971 Honda AN600 for 1.5 years, I have completely rebuilt the engine and it is now running and idling, but completely dies when its under load. I assume its a fuel, spark or timing issue, but wanted you expert opinion.
Please note the following: The wheels spin (or wheel because of differential) when put in gear and vehicle is off the ground. Vehicle starts much better when vacuum advance is heavily advanced. Vehicle starts and ideals very nice. It rev's up fine, but when clutch is let out vehicle starts move but dies immediately.
I have provided videos to assist in analysis:

https://youtu.be/fwdvBx9qpMg
https://youtu.be/CBhTei-81i0

Thank you so much for your help,
Sam

Re: 1.5 Year Project Running, but not Moving Under its own Power
Are the back wheels able to rotate by hand?
Re: 1.5 Year Project Running, but not Moving Under its own Power
That is a very valid question. I dont know. I thought I was but it would seem that I am not. I replicated the action in anther manual I have by starting to high of gear. The shifter does have a decent amount of play but I thought pushing it straight up was first I could very well be in 3rd I will experiment tomorrow and report.
Thank you so much,

Re: 1.5 Year Project Running, but not Moving Under its own Power
Yes, if the brakes are not applied.
Re: 1.5 Year Project Running, but not Moving Under its own Power
1. Your carb is not fully installed, shove it in farther.
2. That's not idling, sounds like about 3500rpm.
3. When you accelerate your vacuum plate goes wrong direction
4. Better clean & lube your mechanical advance, regap points to .015"
6. I bet your cam timing off by 1 tooth.
5. You need the air cleaner installed for correct running
7. Good thing you are young enough to stop the car without the brake booster installed.

Re: 1.5 Year Project Running, but not Moving Under its own Power
Hello Miles,
Thank you for the input. I was actually able to get it running... it helps when you in 1st gear not third...
In regards to #3: should the vacuum plate pull backward or push forward?
Kind regards,
Sam
