Hi
I put an Accel Harley Davidson Super Coil with 8 mm super stock wires on my
72 Z600 and the car is running real good. Before I put the new coil the
engine ran 70 MPH at 5600 RPM, Now she does 70 MPH at 5100 RPM. I took the
car for a 80 miles ride, and it ran real good. I should get better gas
mileage now.

Re: Accel Harley Davidson Super Coil
Hi Jose;
Not to say that your car doesn't run well, maybe even better than
before. But unless you changed one of the following, the gearing set up in
the Honda 600 does not allow higher speeds with lower rpm. What has to be
changed is the wheel/tire height, gears in your trans and final drive, or
sprockets to your drive chains. This is why Honda 600's that are using 13
inch wheels use the 50 series tire so they retain the overall height of the
wheel, although it is still about 1/2 inch higher than a 10in rim and tire.
The super coil is giving you a hotter spark causing greater combustion which
gives you a cleaner running engine and better acceleration. All good
reasons to use it.
I have noticed engines that have been rebuilt and a constant speedometer
gear is used with a synchro transmission. It will appear you are achieving
greater speed with lower RPM's. What has happened is that you have changed
the gearing for the speedometer causing it to give you a false reading. A
synchro trans uses a 16 tooth gear and a constant trans uses 15 tooth gear.
15 teeth move faster than 16.

Re: Accel Harley Davidson Super Coil (I hate to differ but...)
Not to stir the pot, but I have noticed a similar
effect on another car. Years ago I had a Datsun
pickup, one day I put in a different carb and
electronic ignition (stock coil) with no other
changes, same tranny, same rear end, same tires, same
speedo, same pinion. I was a little baffled to find
the same thing as Jose. same speed with significantly
less RPM. something in the hundreds of RPM's less. I
agree with bill that it should not be possible, but
repeated observations always gave the same results.
Can anyone shed a little light on this as it has
puzzled me for many years now.
