Tie rod ends

Post by deanbratcher1 »

Does anyone know what tierod ends from other cars will fit the Honda steering rack. ie same thread, taper etc. I'm looking for an item that I can buy from the local parts store.

Hi James;
     I am not trying to be smart, but I am wondering what leads you to believe your Tie rod ends are warn out?  I have found them all to be good, and only the Pinion shaft bushings bad.

Bill,
My tie rod ends are pretty good, (apart from one where I tried to use
a conventional ball joint splitter and not a puller as recommended!).
The reason I want to know if there is a suitable alternative is
because I only have 1 NOS rubber boot and can't find a replacement
for my split ones.
I guess I really have 2 questions. "Does anyone have or know where I
can get replacement tierod end rubber boots?" and "What complete
tierod end (with rubber boot) will fit the honda rack?"
I'm guessing it may be easier (and cheaper?) to source a complete
tierod unit instead of an original Honda part?
Any Ideas folks?
I also need a pair of those locking washers that are used to secure
the tierod to the rack. I managed to bend mine back to unscrew the
nut but I'd really like to put in new replacements.
Does anyone know how to bend these washers flat in the same way that
Honda did. My vice fouls on the ball joint!!!!!

Hi James;
I don't have any new ones and I don't know of any after market or other
ball joints that small to fit it, but I think I have some used ones. Did
you check out your pinion bushings? As to bending the ears back on the
washer, I have done it several times on different units and they seem to be
doing just fine. Numbers 23, 24, and 28 are the parts your looking for in
the parts pages attached. Try your Honda dealer, they may be common as
blades of grass.
