Hi everyone. I'm looking for input on the following things before I paint
my car. It's a major color change I'm making from a Lime Green to a bright
Red. Please email me directly at by clicking
mailto:dstark@... with your opinion on the following three
matters:
1) I am VERY concerned about removing the Honda metal decals, side and
rear lights from the car. This car has been repainted before with these
things left on and I'm afraid that if I remove them I will damage them and
never get them back on properly. Do you think its a BIG mistake to paint
the car without removing them first? I know the ideal thing is to take
them off but the rubber gaskets are very old and the car is a New England
car so it has rust here and there and I'm very weary about this.
2) The chrome around the lights is very dull and "pitted". I have tried
chrome polish with a rag rubbing by hand but it makes no difference at
all. I suspect my only hope would be to send them in for re-chrome which
would require I remove them. I have a dremmel tool and could possibly try
polishing them in place, but I don't know what to use for polish and I
suspect it would make very little difference in the end. What do you think?
3) I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep the side chrome molding on
my car. It's a bit bent up here and they are a pain to put on and off
without scratching the car. I've seen other's that have removed the trim,
filled the holes and just painted. The earlier cars did not even have the
trim at all any way. Should I just remove them? Or do you think they add
a lot to the car?
Thanks for your opinions. I appreciate them.
