I am contemplating pulling the exhaust manifolds, heat exchanger and heat shields for cleanup and painting. DOes anyone know what material the gaskets for these are made of? Can I fabricate them myself, or are they available from a retail source or a listmember? Also, are there any particular issues to be aware of when pulling these parts? I intend to leave the engine in place.
Also, I would like to use POR-15, the rustproofing coating, on these items. Does anyone know if POR-15 is high-temp compatable?
Thanks,
Steve

Re: exhaust manifold and heat exchanger gaskets?
Hi Steve;
The POR15 is worthless on exhaust parts and they will tell you as much. I have used is successfully to do under coat and wheel wells.
But not where it will receive direct sunlight. It works very well on the subframe. Go to www.hirschauto.com for some really good high temp paint. As to the gasket manifold, the Copper O rings are very close to the Honda CBR 650 copper gaskets. The rest I would leave together.
If your going to freshen up your engine and exhaust system, I would pull the engine.
I use Hirsch Auto High temp aluminum.
The stuff gets brighter the more it heats up.
See attached picture. I had this engine in a car for about a year. The exhaust header and heat riser were all painted with Hirsch high temp systems.

great! Silver rust paint good up to 350 and grey jet coating to
about 1800 degrees.

Hi Steven: I disassembled my manifolds, then sandblasted and immediately sprayed them with Pep Boys aluminum high temp enamel. The longer I drive it the shinier it gets. I made gaskets out of an asbestos base gasket material, which all failed in about a month. Then I made gaskets out of sheet copper with a thin film of Permatex "Ultra Copper" silicone gasket maker on both sides, which ended all leaks. Good luck!

Hi!
Are the copper O-Rings from the Z-Honda the same as for the N-HONDA?
Do you have a part number for the copper O-Rings from CBR 650?
Thanks!
Jochen
