Enough dreaming for now,Bill could you tell me some usefull 600
things like why does that black ground wire coming or going to the
regulator and or brush assembly often get's fried. I noticed on the
coupe wire harness there is several splices on the black ground
serving the lamps and brush and the regulator. Any comments

Good Question, and I too have seen the same thing happen to a number of
regulator. And, I have just removed the wire and grounded it and it ran
great. So, my thought is that the connection became corroded and caused it
to have a poor or no ground. Then each time you drove the car it kept
looking for a better way to ground, heating up the harness and burning away
the connection.

Its because you had a bad ground on engine. The heavy gage ground
cable was making poor connection either at coil or on the motor
itself. You lose this ground and when cranking engine you start
trying to pull current anywere you have some other ground path. It
can also get hot when car is running as you have poor or no ground
for the altenator system.
