Torrington Honda: was: door window channel felt installation

Post by mterrens »

Well, I believe that Torrington Honda looks better "on paper" than in reality.  I recall that the deal is, you order a part, then they go looking for it.  I recommend giving them a call to get the real scoop on sedan and coupe parts and what they REALLY can do.  If you call please write with what you learned.
I WAS able to get "real" window channel guide felt there!

Hi Steve;
    I know what your going through on the window felt.  And, again, I have looked at the window felt and rubber supplied by J.C. Whitney.  The trick to getting the felt to form to the corners is cutting into the back side of the felt. Measure the length needed to get to the corner and cut it from the back side.  Then move the felt forward to where it bends to make the downward vertical section below the door and make another cut on the back side of the felt.  In J.C. Whitney Catalog it is the #25 window channel weather strip.  Stock number 18zx4879t and cost about $10.00 for a 8 foot strip, more than enough to do a Coupe.
    On getting the weather strip into the lower channel sections.  These sections are split and the seams can cause the weather strip not to easily be pushed into place.  Remove all old weather strip.  If you don't it will later deteriorate and fall half off the channel causing the window not to go all the way down or fall off the track.
    Another tip, the plastic squares the hold the window in place and slide on the bar, often wear and fall off or break.  Go to your hardware store and purchase a set of the wheels for your sliding screen door to your patio.  They have to be cut to fit but have the bolt and spacer necessary to complete the job.  Then just remove the threads on the out side of the nut after you tighten it onto the spacer.
