Please look at this front brake assembly. This is how I found it when I
removed it to drop the engine. The brakes seemed to work fine, regardless
of how bad this looks. My questions are: 1. Will I survive to the end of
the block driving with brakes that look like this? 2. If I must rebuild,
who's got the parts?

Looks like the dust seal has swelled just a little.
It will still stop but you will get dirt into the piston assembly and it will seize up.
I would send the calipers to Miles and have him rebuild them.
I just bought a set from him and they look brand new after he is done with them.

Hi Steven;
Well, what your looking at is the dust boot, and it looks like the CV boot
was leaking and the strap was loose enough to cause some rubbing damage to
the dust seal clamp. If it's not leaking it will work. But, do you have
another dust boot? Clamp? and the time to replace it? Then I would
replace it, if for no other reason than to keep it working.
What to do? place a clear plastic tube over the bleed screw and open it
while pushing in on the pads. Close it when they are back enough. Remove
the clear tube and pull the caliper. Undo and remove the pads then remove
the dust seal and replace it. Then put it back together. The trick here is
to keep the brake fluid in the system without causing any lose of fluid or
letting air into the system.
