I met a guy at a car show that said he owned a Coupe (in Rockaway, NJ).  He told me a story about how John DeLorean had a hand in bringing the 600s to the US, despite safety shortfalls.  This is the first I have heard of this and frankly think he is misinformed.  Any other opinions on this story?

While the DeLorean was built in Ireland, up in Canada, Malcom Bricklin had a 'safety' car built under his name.  Bricklin got his start importing Fuji scooters, and when the supply dried up, went to Japan to investigate.  Fuji Heavy Industries wasn't making scooters anymore, but did offer Bricklin a deal on another product, Subaru 360s.  At the time, regulations didn't cover cars weighing less than 1000 lbs, and the Subaru barely made it.  Consumers Union blasted the Subaru 360, an unaltered Kei class car.  The 360 was an opening for the more familiar Subaru company you know.
Bricklin is now trying to import cars from China.  Maybe he's on to something.

Any thing can happen, and just because we never heard of it doesn't mean it didn't happen that way.
