Gee, I never heard that one before.
But I did find a 2 inch dia tach at PepBoys a while back that would monitor 1 cylinder.  Worked good until it died.  Best tach I had was a Coupe tach mounted in the space where the cluster gage is mounted on the sedan and moved the cluster gage over to the left pocket.  I made a mounting bracket/cover out of another Sedan dash and it looked almost factory.   You will need the cam from the coupe, and attaching plumbing to connect the tach.  But there is lots of that stuff around.   For a brake down of what is needed go to the Coupe Parts manual.  It should read something like this, cam, drive end, Left cam end holder, cable and tach.
