Noise near passanger side inner cv/diff housing.

Post by rick_lowe2002 »

Hi,
Just bought this car and drove it 100 miles. Had been making an
intermitent noise. Pulled it up on ramps and ran the motor and
listened carefully with a rubber hose. It is comming from somewhere
in the casig where the passanger side cv axel goes into the diff
housing. I think it is on the top side.
It is a distinctive knocking noise.
Any ideas what this may be?
Thanks in advance!
Rick

If the noise is a "clicking" sound, and gets louder as you go around a turn, it is possible that the CV joint is bad.
thanks

This is absolutley not the cv joint. It is making the noise while the
car is in NEUTRAL.

Hello! Did you listen on the reverse cover where the dipstick is?
I'm thinking the clicking could be a bad ball bearing on the
countershaft, which is under that cover. riceburner006

Yes I did. The sound is more pronounced near the top of the cv
axel/diff housing. I spoke to an expert yesterday and he said is
sounds like a bearing near the differantial. Says it is not that
common but he has seen this and it WOULD make this noise while in NEUTRAL.
Thanks,
Rick
